El Salvador to host Miss Universe 2023 competition

It's confirmed, the 72nd Miss Universe edition (Miss Universe 2023) will be held later this year in the Land of Volcanoes, El Salvador.

The announcement was made by the country's President Nayib Bukele during the 71st Miss Universe final competition in New Orleans.

"El Salvador is a country that is full of beauty. We have the best surfing beaches in the world, magnificent volcanoes, exquisite coffee and we have now become the safest country in Latin America," the President stated in a recorded video.

"I would like to thank the Miss Universe Organization for joining us in this historic process. El Salvador is changing and we want you to come and see it for yourselves."

El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America bordered on the northeast by Honduras, on the northwest by Guatemala, and on the south by the Pacific Ocean. Its capital and largest city is San Salvador.

It will be the country's second time hosting the prestigious pageant after 1975. The official date, venue, and further information about the next Miss Universe edition are yet to be announced.

Miss Universe 2022, the 71st edition of the Miss Universe competition will be taking place tonight at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The 71st Miss Universe preliminary competition will be held on Wednesday, January 11 from 7 p.m. CST at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in Louisiana, USA. Following the crucial part of the pageant where the contestants will parade in their opening dresses, evening gowns, and swimsuits in front of the judges, the national costume competition will take place at 9 p.m. CST. Their preliminary scores will help determine who will make it to the semifinals which will be announced during the final show on Saturday, January 14 from 7 p.m. CST at the same venue. Out of over 80 contestants at the 71st Miss Universe pageant now happening in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, 25 came from Europe. Switzerland returned to the competition after a 3-year break while for some reason several countries such as Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, Romania, and Sweden withdrew. Latvia, which was expected to compete for the first time since 2006, made the last-minute decision to not compete after its representative tested positive for COVID-19 before departure. Countries still waiting for their first win are   Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Iceland, Italy, Kosovo, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, Turkiye, and Ukraine. Twenty-eight contestants from the regions of Africa and the Asia Pacific are currently vying for the 71st Miss Universe title in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Bhutan joined for the first time while Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Seychelles made a comeback. It is Seychelle's first participation since 1995. Over 80 contestants from around the world are now competing in the prestigious 71st Miss Universe edition in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. A total of 31 contestants came from the region of The Americas. Four from returning countries — Belize, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay.
