ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan football team was unable to find momentum on either side of the ball in a 31-12 loss against No. 3-ranked Texas on Saturday (Sept. 7) at Michigan Stadium. The Maize Out loss broke a streak of 16 straight victories dating back to the 2022 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl against TCU.

The Longhorns managed the Wolverines handily on defense, holding the Maize and Blue to 284 total yards and allowing conversions on three of 12 third-down opportunities. Turnovers proved detrimental for the Wolverines, throwing two interceptions and fumbling the ball once.

For a second straight game, Colston Loveland proved to be a bright spot for the Wolverines, recording eight catches for 70 of Michigan's 204 receiving yards. Semaj Morgan (career highs of five receptions and 45 yards) scored the only U-M touchdown in the game, a 33-yard receiving score along the away sideline with two minutes remaining in the contest. Donovan Edwards led the way on the ground with 41 rushing yards over eight attempts in the loss.

On defense, U-M was unable to stop the Longhorns' passing attack, allowing 246 yards and three touchdowns through the air; 10 of Texas' 15 first downs came on passing plays. In total, the Longhorns posted 389 total yards, and their 31 points marked the most allowed by the Wolverines since the 2022 CFP matchup versus TCU (Dec. 31, 2022).

After missing a 43-yard field goal attempt on their first drive, the Longhorns were the first to find the scoreboard on their second -- a 21-yard passing touchdown with 4:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Michigan responded quickly, producing a nine-play, 55-yard drive spanning 5:45 and resulting in a Dominic Zvada 37-yard field goal conversion. The drive included a pair of first-down runs by Edwards (five and 12 yards) and a 22-yard reception by C.J. Charleston on a flea flicker pass -- his first catch as a Wolverine.

In the remaining 13:23 of the first half, Texas went on to score 17 unanswered points and entered halftime with a 24-3 lead.

After the teams traded punts on the first two drives of the second half, Michigan recorded its first points in almost 25 minutes of game play on a Zvada 52-yard field goal -- his third field goal of 50 yards or more in just two games this season.

Texas answered again, scoring a seven-yard touchdown through the air which resulted from a 55-yard end-around rush; this brought the score to a 31-6 Longhorns advantage.

The Wolverines concluded the game on a bright note offensively, producing an eight-play, 78-yard drive which resulted in a 33-yard touchdown connection between Davis Warren and Morgan. After an unsuccessful two-point conversion attempt, the score came to its final resting place of 31-12.

Michigan will wrap up its non-conference schedule next Saturday (Sept. 14) against Arkansas State. The game is scheduled for a noon kickoff and it will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
