Amid all the craziness of NBA draft night, the Raptors quietly added an undrafted guard who shone during March Madness earlier this year.

As first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Toronto agreed to a two-way contract with former Kansas State Wildcasts point guard Markquis Nowell.

The 23-year-old guard set the NCAA record for most assists in a game when he dropped 19 dimes against Michigan State in the Sweet Sixteen last March.

The Raptors added the five-foot-eight player to the roster after drafting six-foot-six guard Gradey Dick with their 13th pick Thursday night.

“Toronto here we come,” Nowell tweeted overnight after reports of his agreement with the Raptors broke.

The Raptors have a successful history with signing undrafted players and giving them meaningful roles on the roster — with the most prominent example being Fred VanVleet, who turned himself into an all-star and was instrumental in helping the team win its first NBA championship in 2019.
