“Our prayers are with Mark and his family during this incredibly difficult time and we ask for their privacy,” the Leafs said in the post.
The Calgary Flames and Seattle Kraken, Giordano’s two previous teams in the National Hockey League, posted condolences.
“Our deepest condolences go out to Mark and the entire Giordano family,” the Flames said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.”
Giordano played in 15 seasons for the Flames and was the team’s captain from 2013-21.
In 2021-22, Giordano served as captain of the Kraken in their expansion season before he was traded to the Leafs in March 2022.
“We’d like to send our heartfelt condolences to Gio, his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the Kraken posted on X.
The Leafs play host to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
