Pop star Lana Del Rey and her Louisiana-born swamp tour guide boyfriend, Jeremy Dufrene, have officially filed for a marriage license in Lafourche Parish. According to a report from NOLA.com, court records reveal the couple took the leap earlier this week (Sep. 23), applying for the license at the clerk of court's office in Thibodaux, Louisiana, a town about an hour from New Orleans. The pair paid $32 in cash for the license.
The news comes just weeks after Del Rey, 39, and Dufrene, 49, made headlines for weathering Hurricane Francine together down the bayou. According to Louisiana state law, the couple has 30 days from the date of filing to officially marry, or the license will expire.
Rumors of their relationship began circulating in late August, after Del Rey and Dufrene were spotted together in England before her performance at the 2024 Reading & Leeds Festival. British media later reported the couple was seen enjoying a quiet evening at a London pub, adding fuel to the speculation.
Dufrene, a native of Des Allemands and boat captain for Airboat Tours by Arthur Matherne, has known Del Rey for several years. The two reportedly met in 2019 when Del Rey took one of Dufrene’s famous swamp tours during a visit to Louisiana. Del Rey even shared photos from the trip on social media, which led to them staying in touch.
This year, Del Rey returned to Louisiana in May and reunited with Dufrene for another airboat tour before she headlined the 2024 Hangout Fest in Orange Beach, Alabama. The couple’s connection seemed to deepen over the summer. Del Rey posted more photos from the New Orleans area, including a widely circulated snapshot from the Tic-Toc Café in Metairie.
Del Rey's fans have been busy chatting as they await further news of their wedding, which could happen at any time before their license expires in late October. For now, the "Summertime Sadness" singer seems ready to embrace both love and Louisiana life with her bayou boy, Jeremy Dufrene.
