Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman set a World Series record Tuesday after homering in his sixth consecutive Fall Classic game, giving his team the best possible start as they try to clinch the Fall Classic.
Freeman hit a two-run homer off New York Yankees starter Luis Gil in the first inning at Yankee Stadium to give the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead. The 35-year-old has homered in all four games in this series.
Freeman homered in Games 5 and 6 as a member of the 2021 World Series champion Atlanta Braves against the Astros.
On Monday, he tied Houston Astros outfielder George Springer as the only players to hit a homer in five straight games.
The good times did not last long for the Dodgers as the New York Yankees took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after a grand slam from shortstop Anthony Volpe, a New York native.
The Dodgers lead the best-of-seven series three games to none and are looking to clinch their eighth World Series title in frachise history and first since 2020.
The Yankees are seeking to stave off eliminatation and force a Game 5 which would be play Wednesday in New York. The Dodgers have so far dominated the series after Freeman’s epic walk-off grand slam in Game 1.
The series between the Dodgers and Yankees was one of the most highly anticipated editions of the Fall Classic in recent years between two of the sport’s most legendary franchises.
