The remains of Kristina Joksimovic, 38, were found in her home in Binningen, Switzerland on Feb. 13. Her husband, referred to only as “Thomas” by local media, was arrested in relation to her death.
On Wednesday, Thomas’ release appeal was rejected by Switzerland federal court in Lausanne after he reportedly confessed to Joksimovic’s killing.
Swiss news outlet BZ Basel reported the ongoing murder investigation had revealed “concrete indications of mental illness.”
Thomas reportedly confessed to killing the woman in March, allegedly stating it was done in an act of self-defence after claiming Joksimovic had attacked him with a knife, despite having no evidence of self-defence.
Citing autopsy reports, BZ Basel reported that Joksimovic was strangled to death and her body was dismembered with a knife, garden shears and a jigsaw. Several of the woman’s body parts were then chopped up by a hand blender, “pureed” and later dissolved in a chemical solution.

The husband was arrested a day after Joksimovic’s body was found. It’s alleged he initially told cops he found his wife dead and dismembered her in a laundry room after panicking.
Prosecutors said Thomas showed a “high level of criminal energy, lack of empathy and cold-bloodedness after killing his wife” and covering up the crime.
In 2007, Joksimovic was crowned Miss Northwest Switzerland and was a Miss Switzerland finalist, per 20 Minuten. Post-pageant life, Joksimovic operated her own business as a pageant catwalk coach.
