THIRD PERIOD

14:40: Dubois is off for his second infraction of the night, holding Nugent-Hopkins in the Oilers zone to earn two mintues in the box.

18:52: DIRTY DRAISAITL SNIPE! From the tightest of angles at the bottom of his office in the right circle, the German goes under the bar with his effort to restore Edmonton's three-goal lead early in the period on their fourth power play. Bouchard and McDavid each have four assists in this game after picking up the helpers on Draisaitl's first of the 2024 postseason. 5-2 Oilers.

20:00: The third period is underway! Let's close Game 1 out with a solid final frame, and it begins with the Oilers on the power play for 1:40.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: AFTER 2 | Edmonton 4, Los Angeles 2. Hyman & Nugent-Hopkins score to extend the lead to four, but Anderson and Kempe draw the Kings back within two heading into the final period of Game 1.

19.9: Trevor Moore takes the legs out from underneath Vincent Desharnais, leading to the d-man slowly pulling himself off the ice before dragging himself to the Oilers bench. Moore is deservingly going to sit for two minutes for tripping.

2:04: Bad bounce for Skinner. Adrian Kempe circles the net and throws one across the crease that goes in off Evan Bouchard's skate blade. The Kings have shown in these last 10 minutes of the second period that Game 1 is far from finished. 4-2 Edmonton.

7:25: NO GOAL! Trevor Lewis knocks one down in front that goes through Skinner's five-hole, but an official review from the LEague determined he redirected it into the net with a distinct motion. It remains 4-1 Oilers.

9:04: Kings get on the board. Mikey Anderson scores on a shot through traffic from the point. 4-1 Oilers.

11:36: TIPPED HOME BY NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! 4-0 Oilers. Leon Draisaitl picks out the longest-tenured Oilers player at the back post after walking in from the right circle and firing the perfect pass to his linemate. That's three assists for McDavid tonight as well, picking up the secondary helper. The Oilers are in full command in Game 1.

Nugent-Hopkins bangs in a power-play goal on a pass from Draisaitl

12:01: Power play for the Oilers! Phillip Danault and Hyman go at it around the Kings' net, and the LA centre gets his stick up into Hyman's face to earn two minutes. The Oilers are 0-for-1 tonight with the man advantage.

14:17: Edmonton's goalscorer is given a two-minute penalty for goaltender interference going hard into Talbot in the Kings' crease. LA heads to their second power play.

15:10: HYMAN NETS HIS SECOND! THE OILERS ARE IN COMMAND UP THREE GOALS! McDavid is the master of the spin move and he's showing it early in this series, pivoting behind the Kings' net and backhanding his second assist of the game to a wide-open Hyman in front of the LA crease. Adam Henrique also joins the 'multi-point' crew with the secondary helper to go along with his first-period goal.

Hyman has two on the night & the Oilers take a 3-0 lead

20:00: The second period is underway! The Kings begin the frame with 56 seconds of carry-over power-play time from Henrique's infraction in the first period.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: A terrific opening period leaves the Oilers ahead 2-0 on the Kings through one period in Game 1. Hyman and Henrique have the goals, while Bouchard has two assists. Edmonton is showing terrific dedication toward defending in their own end, getting into the shot lanes and interrupting any chance for the Kings to generate scoring chances. The Oilers lead 15-9 on the shot clock.

1:04: Henrique is guilty of leaving the knee out and tripping a Kings' forward to present LA with a man advantage before the intermission.

1:30: Nugent-Hopkins fans on an open net! Draisaitl set him up on a two-on-one with the cross-ice pad, but No. 93 puts it wide of the open cage left by a sliding Talbot who was in No Man's Land.

6:01: Talbot stops McDavid on the rush with a critical right-pad stop that prevented a goal. It would've tucked itself inside rthe far post if not for the former Oilers netminder's intervention.

7:44: Pierre Luc-Dubois gets a little too aggressive with McDavid near the benches, and the referee calls the Kings' centre for a careless interference penalty. With a chance to make it a three-goal lead, the Oilers head to their first power play of the series having finished fourth in the regular season at 26.3 percent. The Kings were a formidable 84.6 percent on the penalty kill – good enough for second in the League.

10:24: RICO UNSTOPPABLE SNAP SHOT! THE OILERS JUMP AHEAD 2-0! Hyman offloads a lateral pass to Adam Henrique alone in the left circle to walk down and left a pinpoint snap shot into the top shelf on Talbot's short side. Hyman and Bouchard get the helpers, with the defenceman now having two assists in this game to help create this early two-goal lead for the Oilers.

Henrique snipes one past Talbot for a 2-0 Oilers lead in Game 1

11:04: \\A \HUGE** defensive effort by Mattias Ekholm breaks up a potential breakaway for Trevor Moore before using his long stick to break up two more potential chances for Kings offence.

13:08: THIS CROWD EXPLODES! ZACH HYMAN OPENS THE SCORING IN GAME 1! McDavid makes an amazing spin move coming into the zone and finds Hyman in between the circles, who hits it five-hole on Talbot after it was originally knocked down by a Kings' stick. Advantage Edmonton, 1-0 in the first period.

Hyman converts from McDavid to open the playoff scoring

15:19: Draisaitl nutmegs a defenceman on the rush to create a breakaway, but it's broken up by a good defensive stick on the backtrack. What a terrific move by the German.

16:52: Too close to an opening goal for Edmonton. Hyman backhands one through the crease that grazes a piece of the left post before Henrique throws it back across and into the back of Talbot's legs, avoiding disaster for the Kings early in this game that's started off with good tempo. Both netminders have had to come up with some big early saves and some heavy hits have been thrown.

20:00: GAME 1 IS UNDERWAY! LET'S GO OILERS!

20:00: LFG OIL COUNTRY! The teams are out on the ice for anthems, with the Oilers entering the cauldron of Blue & Orange that is Rogers Place to boisterous support. Oil Country is ready to rock for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
