An AI-Generated Photo of Katy Perry at the Met Gala Went Viral and ...
One person who wasn’t in attendance at the 2024 Met Gala? Katy Perry. Although she always makes a statement when she hits the Met steps, the “Never Really Over” singer has not been to the Met Gala since 2022. However, for a while there on Monday night, many fans thought Perry had completely stolen the show. Turns out, it was just an internet prank.
As stars flooded the carpet to show off their stylish looks, a few KatyCats apparently thought it would be fun to create AI-generated images of the pop star, and they even created dresses for her that perfectly fit in with the theme of the evening: “The Garden of Time.”
One of the photos saw Perry in a giant ballgown covered in flowers and butterflies, while another featured her wearing a bronze corset dress with strands of greenery dripping from the skirt. Although they were fake, these photos were so fabulous that they ended up going viral on social media, and they even managed to fool Perry’s mom, Mary.
Perry decided to lean into the joke by sharing the AI photos to her Instagram and writing, “Couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work.” She also included a screenshot of a text from her mother, who had sent Perry one of the images on Monday night, writing, “Ha Feather! Didn’t know you went to the Met ???????????? What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol.” To which Perry responded, “Lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!”
Despite not being present this year, Perry has been to the Met Gala a total of nine different times, and her looks never fail to be eye-catching, whether she’s wearing wings or a burger costume. Still, although fans may not have gotten to see her walk the carpet, Perry did give them a treat when she teased that she was working on new music.

In her post about the AI photos, the final slide included a video of Perry singing in the studio (but the pop star removed the audio, of course). If we can’t get a carpet look, at least we’ve got something to look forward to.
