Jude Bellingham scored twice in Real Madrid’s El Clásico victory on Saturday, helping the club maintain its position at the top of the table and go four points ahead of rivals Barcelona.

Bellingham’s performance in this high profile game, and his impressive start to life at the club, has led to comparisons with one of Real Madrid’s greatest-ever players, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Englishman’s brace came in the second half and included a dramatic winner in added time.

Ilkay Gundogan had given Barcelona the lead within six minutes, giving the Camp Nou faithful hope their team would be able to halt Real’s early-season charge to the top of La Liga.

But Bellingham had other ideas, and his heroics in this rivalry match-up will further endear him to his new fans in the Spanish capital.

His first was a wondergoal smashed in from outside the area, before he turned in the winner from close range late on having made a great run into the box.

The 20-year-old now has 13 goals in 13 games for Real Madrid, matching Ronaldo who achieved the same record in his first 13 games for the club in 2009.

No new Real Madrid signing had matched that goal-scoring spree embarked on by Ronaldo during his first games for the club on joining from Manchester Untied—that was until Bellingham arrived and did the same this season.

“He’s incredible, and always makes a difference for us.” Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. said of Bellingham.

“The fans were used to Cristiano Ronaldo in the past and now Jude has arrived for us.

“We have a group of young players and we are always together on and off the field.

“I think that is the unity of our team—that on the field we do not stop defending each other—and that makes a good group that wants to win many things.”

Bellingham is well on his way to being a bona fide global star, and his performances for England and in high profile games for his club mark him out as one of the best players in the game at this moment in time.

Before the meeting with Barcelona he commented on some of his own memories of El Clásico, watching from the UK or during his time in Germany with his previous club, Borussia Dortmund.

"I always remember celebrations and stuff like that, and I remember Ronaldo's at Camp Nou when he went 'calma, calma'," Bellingham told Spanish TV channel, TVE.

"Stuff that sticks with you in your head, the iconic moments.”

He went on to create his own iconic moment, and given the way he has started at the club, it could well be the first of many.
