The Seattle Mariners reportedly bolstered their bullpen ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Friday that the American League West team landed relief pitcher Yimi García from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for a package that is highlighted by outfield prospect Jonatan Clase.

Passan called García "one of the best" pitchers who were available ahead of the deadline.

Seattle has made the playoffs just once since the 2001 season and surely sees a golden opportunity to make a postseason run.

After all, it is just one game behind the Houston Astros in the American League West and 3.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals for the final wild-card spot in the AL. But things need to change, as the team is just 1-8 in its last nine games and trending in the wrong direction after appearing to be a postseason team for much of the campaign.

García gives the Mariners a late-inning option who has been a bright spot for an otherwise struggling Blue Jays squad.

The right-hander has a 2.70 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 30 innings this season, which marks a drastic improvement over last year's 4.09 ERA in 66 innings.

Seattle could also use additional late-inning options in its bullpen that is a solid but unspectacular 11th in the league in ERA, which is behind the Oakland Athletics and Astros within the American League West.

As for the Blue Jays, they landed a notable prospect in Clase as they play out the string in what is shaping up to be a lost season.

According to MLB.com's prospect rankings, the outfielder was the 10th-best prospect in Seattle's system. He has appeared in 19 games at the major league level this season and is slashing .195/.233/.220 with three RBI.

Perhaps the 22-year-old will see more playing time for Toronto following this deal.
