The NBA has launched an investigation following reports that Joel Embiid, the star center for the Philadelphia 76ers, allegedly pushed a journalist after a heated exchange in the locker room post-defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies.

"We are aware of reports of an incident in the Sixers' locker room tonight and will begin an investigation," an NBA spokesperson told ESPN.

Shams Charania, a highly regarded NBA insider though not present during the incident, provided details on ESPN about what transpired. "Embiid got into a dispute with a columnist after tonight’s game in Philadelphia. Embiid expressed his displeasure over a recent column that referenced his late brother and his son, and pushed the columnist. There was no punch thrown," he reported.

Embiid, who was named the NBA's MVP in 2023, has yet to play this season due to physical issues, similar to Paul George, the Sixers' major acquisition aiming to make a significant impact in the East this year.

Without its two stars, Philadelphia has started the season with a disappointing 1-4 record, following tonight’s 107-124 loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. Spanish player Santi Aldama contributed 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists to the Grizzlies’ victory.
