Jim Montgomery didn’t show his hand on Saturday morning when asked which of his two goalies would get the call in net for Game 1 against the Maple Leafs.

“It’ll be one of the guys in pads out there,” Montgomery said after morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena.

Over seven hours later, we finally received our answer. Jeremy Swayman led the Bruins out onto the TD Garden ice for warmups, with the 25-year-old getting the nod for Boston’s playoff opener against its Original Six nemesis.

With Swayman starting, the Bruins have carried their goalie rotation over from the regular season, with Boston now switching off starts between Ullmark and Swayman over its last 26 games.

Ullmark has been playing at an elite level down the final stretch of the regular season — winning six of his last nine games while sporting a .935 save percentage.

After earning his first All-Star nod in January, Swayman’s numbers dipped during the second half — with the 25-year-old netminder posting a .903 save percentage over his last 17 games.

But Swayman has excelled over the last two seasons against Toronto — a team with enough firepower to make even the sturdiest goalies tremble between the pipes. During Boston’s current seven-game win streak against the Maple Leafs, Swayman is 4-0-0 with a .961 save percentage.

Even with Montgomery remaining mum on a starter this week, Don Sweeney noted on Thursday that the Bruins already have a plan in place regarding their goalie tandem.

“I’ll sum it up in the fact that we’re very confident in our goaltending,” Sweeney said. “I think it’s been a strength of our hockey club, certainly for the past two years. The noise that goes on outside is not necessarily filtered as much inside as what people may believe.

“Because our goalies know what the plan is, they know what their strengths are for our hockey club, and how much we rely on them. Performance and results will dictate some of this, but we know what the plan is going in, and so do they… and we’re comfortable with it.”

Ilya Samsonov is the projected starter for Toronto in Game 1. Samonsov posted an .890 save percentage over 40 games this season, and is just 1-2-2 with an .899 save percentage against the Bruins over seven career games.

Toronto will be shorthanded up front on Saturday, as forward William Nylander was not spotted on the ice for warmups. Nylander has been deployed more as a third-line forward down the stretch for the Leafs — giving Toronto an elite scoring talent further down the depth chart. Nylander played every game of the regular season, scoring 40 goals and posting 98 points.
