Jay Leno Enlists the Help of Property Brothers in Surprise Home ...
Jay Leno helped out his former intern David who helped care for him after his garage fire last November on Monday’s episode of Celebrity IOU. The former talk show host enlisted the help of Drew and Jonathan Scott, better known as the Property Brothers, after meeting them at his garage stuffed with vintage cars and motorcycles.
During the episode, Jay revealed that he first met David when he was a teenager through his father who restored fire engines and he became his intern 14 years ago before becoming a director-producer. Jay also shared that David had become like a son to him and was there for him when he suffered severe burns to his neck and face from the November garage fire.
Acknowledging David‘s kindness and loyalty, Leno asked the twins to help renovate the bathroom and nursery for David, who was about to have a baby with his wife Margaret. They planned to add stylish built-in closets at Jay’s suggestion for the nursery and a new entrance for the bathroom so guests wouldn’t have to enter through the bedroom.
With a four-week deadline for the project, Jay volunteered to help out while David was away from home to allow for some plumbing repairs before they brought the baby back. Even though he was recovering from a recent motorcycle accident in which he broke his collarbone and ribs, Jay helped with demolition and removal of tiles and even chose the peel-and-stick wallpaper for the baby’s room.
The renovation also included the installation of new insulation in the attic and windows with improved energy efficiency. Jonathan picked up a stuffed giraffe as the final touch for the baby room, which David said struck the right balance between modern and preserving the character of the house.
Jay welcomed David back to his newly remodeled home and revealed that he got more than his plumbing fixed. He introduced Jonathan and Drew, who had completed the project in just four weeks. David, who was shocked at the renovations and touched by Jay’s kindness, said after meeting the brothers, “Both my wife and I watch The Property Brothers on TV. And then to see them come through our front door, that was a really pretty unique, uh, experience.”
Margaret was also stunned as she checked out the nursery while holding their newborn son, William James Swift, with the middle name given in honor of Jay. “That was the greatest gift he could ever give, eh? I don’t have any children. So, that was really something special,” Jay said. “It came out of left field.”
The new crib was a hit with the baby as he was fast asleep as the episode came to an end. Jay’s act of kindness towards his former intern and friend has touched many hearts and serves as a reminder of the power of true friendship and gratitude.
