Eagles vs. Seahawks live updates: Jalen Hurts & Geno Smith status ...
Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks are in the worst slump they have ever experienced, clinging to dwindling playoff odds with four must-win games remaining.
Seattle entered Week 15 in competition for one of the final NFC playoff seeds along with the Packers, Rams, Falcons and Saints. With the Eagles in town Monday night, the Seahawks know they have virtually no margin for error at this point in the season.
“There is so much at stake from this point forward,” Carroll said. “It’s a run to the finish. We’ll see who wins the race.”
During this four-game losing streak (and much of the season) the Seahawks have not played Carroll’s brand of football: finishing strong, doing right for longer than the opponent, running the football and playing good defense. The coach was asked on his weekly Seattle Sports radio show whether his messaging is still getting through to the players.
“Ask them,” Carroll said. “Next.”
Former Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright, during an appearance on the same station, was asked about his ex-coach’s comments.
“What I’m hearing from coach Carroll is that he’s sick and tired of these guys,” Wright said. “He’s extremely frustrated. He feels he’s preaching to them, he’s trying to be nice to them, but they’re just not receiving his message well. They essentially don’t give a damn what he’s saying at this point.”
Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner was the only player who was asked directly this week about Carroll potentially losing the locker room (he said he doesn’t believe that to be true). However, other players — specifically those who have played for other coaches — spoke about Carroll and his uniquely optimistic attitude as an integral part of righting the ship.
