Why Taylor Swift Skipped Travis Kelce's Steelers Christmas Game

Last Christmas, Taylor Swift brought “Santa Claus” (i.e. her brother, Austin Swift, dressed in the outfit) and her family to the Kansas City Chiefs’s December 25 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. This year, she’s supporting her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, from afar. Swift chose not to attend Kelce’s away game at Allegiant Stadium. He was filmed arriving at the stadium earlier today, and she was not seen there leading up to kickoff.

The singer’s decision is not surprising, as Swift has only been attending Kelce’s home games. Last year’s Christmas game had been at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. In October, a source told Page Six that Swift was avoiding away games because of the security risk. “She’s not going anywhere unless she knows the venue intimately, and it has been thoroughly scouted and secured in advance,” the source said.

On December 3, a source told Us Weekly a little about Swift’s Christmas plans, saying she intends to host her and Kelce’s families. Now that her Eras Tour has ended, the singer is looking forward to spending more time with her partner of over a year.

A source shared, “Taylor plans to stay in and hibernate [with Travis] for a while. They want to do ‘normal things’ as a couple.”

That insider also suggested a holiday engagement is not in the works. While the pair would “love to be engaged,” they “aren’t rushing it,” that source said.

A second source added that Swift prefers taking things slowly. They explained, “Taylor does feel like Travis is The One, but jumping in is not her style. That’s just not how she does [things]. Marriage is a big deal, and she wants [it to be] forever.”

Kelce, for his part, has put a lot of effort into making Swift’s December—her birthday falls on December 13—special despite his work commitments. On December 5, a source told Page Six, “Although he’ll be playing on Christmas and has an away game the weekend of Taylor’s birthday, Travis is going to make sure to take time out to celebrate both occasions with her.”

He also got her a lot of gifts. “[He] has been shopping for Christmas and birthday gifts for Taylor for quite a while now,” the insider said. “[He’s] not the type to leave these things to the last minute so he’s been picking up items here and there for the past several months whenever he has a chance.”
