iPhone 17 Sparks Massive $268 Million Investment by LG Innotek ...
South Korea’s LG Innotek announced plans to invest ₩3.75 billion ($268 million USD) in new facilities for its camera module division, focusing on boosting competitiveness and supporting new product models, reports The Elec. The investment is set to be completed by December 2025.
The move is believed to prepare for Apple’s iPhone 17, which is expected to feature upgraded camera modules. While the iPhone 17 Pro models will continue to include advanced folded zoom technology, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro series, overall changes to camera specifications will remain minor.
LG Innotek, which holds the biggest market share in iPhone camera modules, does not need to increase production capacity. Instead, the investment will likely focus on upgrading equipment to handle the higher-spec camera requirements of the iPhone 17 series.
According to LG Innotek’s CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, the company already secured enough production capacity by 2023, and current investments are focused on improving performance. LG Innotek remains a leader in Apple’s camera module supply chain, competing with firms like Foxconn and Cowell. Apple leverages multiple suppliers all the time to negotiate the best rates.
Apple is rumoured to release a super thin iPhone 17. Let’s hope we see some of the biggest changes to iPhone in recent years next fall. Maybe Apple Intelligence will finally be fully released by then (Siri may take longer than that).
