The Indian men’s cricket team will come face to face against arch-rivals Pakistan in its second Group A match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday.

The IND vs PAK T20 World Cup 2024 match is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM IST. Live streaming and live telecast will be available in India.

Both India and Pakistan are former T20 World Cup winners. India famously beat Pakistan in the final at Johannesburg to become the inaugural champions in 2007 while the Men in Green won the subsequent edition in 2009.

However, neither side has won the trophy since. Pakistan made the final at the last edition in 2022 but eventually lost out.

Both India and Pakistan are coming into the fixture on the back of contrasting starts to their respective T20 World Cup 2024 campaigns.

With captain Rohit Sharma leading from the front, India comfortably outplayed Ireland by eight wickets in their opening Group A match in New York while Babar Azam’s Pakistan suffered a shock loss in Super Over to the USA in Dallas.

The result puts the onus on Pakistan to win Sunday’s contest as a loss to their arch-rivals may just make their progress to the Super 8 very difficult.

The tricky nature of the Nassau County pitch, however, may favour Pakistani seamers slightly. The surface has showcased plenty of lateral movement and uneven bounce and a low-scoring match may be on the offing.

The India vs Pakistan cricket match, interestingly, could have three of the top run scorers in T20I cricket history on show. Babar Azam currently leads the charts with 4067 runs from 120 matches with Virat Kohli (4038 runs in 118 matches) and Rohit Sharma (4026 in 152 matches) closely on his heels.

Virat Kohli, however, is the most successful batter in India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup matches, having scored 308 runs in five innings against the Men in Green in the ICC competition.

Arguably the most bitter rivalry in world cricket, the India vs Pakistan duel has played out 12 times in the T20I format. The Indian men’s cricket team has won eight while Pakistan have tasted victory only thrice. One match ended in a tie.

Interestingly seven of these 12 matches have been in the T20 World Cup over the years. The two rivals’ first meeting at the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa ended in a tie with India winning the bowl out eventually.

India have won five of the other six matches outright. The Pakistan cricket team’s only win over India in the T20 World Cup came in the 2021 T20 World Cup played in Dubai.

The last time the two met was at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. India emerged as the victors in Melbourne.
