Earlier, on favourable conditions, Indian spinners were up to the task to dismiss Australia for 199.
Electing to bat first, Australia were in a spot of bother early with Jasprit Bumrah (2 for 35) removing Mitchell Marsh with the score on 5.
Both Bumrah and Siraj bowled exceptionally well to push back Australia. Then it was left to Indian spinners to scuttle Australian batsmen.
Steve Smith and David Warner added 69 runs for the second wicket. Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 42) removed David Warner for 41 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled well in the middle overs to build pressure on the Australian batsmen.

“Shubhman Gill hasn’t recovered in time. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting,” Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said at the toss.
India and Australia have locked horns 12 times across all editions of the tournament, with the latter having won eight games. Both teams would hope to start their campaigns on a positive note as they script another chapter in the annals of a long-standing rivalry.
Though the 2003 World Cup will bring back fond memories for the Aussies, Indian fans would not be too keen on revisiting them. Indian batters put up an abysmal show in the group stage, stringing together a paltry 125 runs.
