Happy Father's Day (and Other Blackhawks Bullets)

18 Jun 2023

Since today is Father’s Day, I thought this piece from Ben Pope was a great way to open this morning’s bullets. As you might remember, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson became a dad for the first time in the middle of the season. As the father of three boys, I (vaguely, it’s been 16 years for me) remember the stress of welcoming the first baby into the world. I can’t imagine navigating this past Blackhawks’ season while living through that. Hats off to all the dads out there today!

Kyle Davidson’s daughter, Willa, was born Dec. 27 — in the very middle of his first full season as Blackhawks GM.

He had to quickly learn how to juggle the responsibilities of two very important jobs.

Another person who dealt with a lot of emotions as a dad this past season was Patrick Kane, who saw his time in Chicago come to an end with a trade to the Rangers before the deadline. The NHL reminded us on Saturday that he was the only player the Blackhawks have ever selected No. 1 overall — until 10 days from today. And that pick worked out incredibly well for Chicago. Vegas celebrated with the Stanley Cup on Saturday night. The parade went down The Strip and the players were, as always, having the time of their lives. We’ve seen this three times in the last 13 years here in Chicago, and I think we can’t wait for the next one. Earlier on Saturday, the Golden Knights released their tribute video of their first championship season. And they nailed it. Great stuff. This is a nice read from the good folks at the Daily Faceoff on some prospects who have helped improve their draft stock the most in recent months. Some of these names could be in play for the Blackhawks late in the first round and into the second and third rounds when the 2023 NHL Draft begins next Wednesday. Finally, it continues to be fun watching Christopher Morel develop for the Cubs. Development of prospects is going to be a big part of being a Blackhawks fan in the coming months (and years), so let’s take a moment to appreciate his growth.
