Just in time for Giving Tuesday, Envision Counselling and Support Centre has launched the annual Gift Card campaign.

Communications Specialist Raven Daer said they have been very successful in the past with the initiative, and they are hopeful that the community will rally together to help out again this year.

"We know that times are a little bit tough, but even one gift card purchase makes a difference," she expressed. "As a community, it is hard to see each other struggling, and especially those who are experiencing some traumatic events. So those folks who are experiencing violence and abuse in their lives may be fleeing some abusive or not-so-healthy relationships and trying to start over."

Envision is inviting people to donate gift cards for groceries, gas, and essential items so they can distribute them to those in need.

"That could be Walmart, Co-op, No Frills, Wholesale, Esso, Dollarama, those sorts of things, to help those with the essentials and as well as that fuel for transportation to medical appointments and perhaps counselling sessions as well," Daer explained.

She said they aren't picky about how the gift cards are purchased, and, if it works better for someone who wants to give but doesn't have time to shop, they'll gladly take donations via their website and purchase the cards.

"We do a large dispersal around the holiday season, but then we do keep quite a large stockpile to utilize throughout the year for those things such as gas for transportation to those appointments and things like that."

Daer added that all donations of at least $25 are able to receive a charitable receipt form.
