Police in Dartmouth are warning the public about a man with a firearm in the Gaston Road area of Dartmouth.
Halifax Regional Police say the public should be on the lookout for a bald man in his late 40s, around six feet tall and 170 pounds, with an average build and tattoos on both arms. He is wearing blue jeans, a black T shirt and work boots.
An emergency alert issued around 10:20 a.m. said the man is believed to be armed and dangerous.
"Police ask the public to stay away from Gaston Road and ask residents to shelter in place," the alert said. "Call 911 if you spot the man. Do not approach."
A number of officers and police vehicles are on the scene, and a section of Gaston Road is closed.
Police were focusing their investigation on a home on Gaston Road on Tuesday morning. Officers wearing body armour and carrying long guns could be seen patrolling the property.
By noon, they had expanded their search beyond the home, and police dogs were also on the scene.
