RONO HILLS, Sept 07:  The univocal chanting of Ganpati Bappa Morya… Ganpati Bappa Morya … by devotees rented the air in Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) Shiv Temple, located amidst natural surroundings, on Saturday during Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi celebration as a tribute to Hindu deity Ganesh as ‘God of New Beginnings’, ‘God of wisdom and intelligence and Vighnkarta.

RGU vice chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha and Nirjuli-based North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) director Prof Narendranath S joined faculty members of RGU and Hills College of Teacher Education and AUSP members with their family members and children in the celebration with traditional gaiety and fervor for all rituals including taking prasad together while sitting on the floor.

Arunachal-Utakal Sanskrutika Parishad (AUSP) organized its annual event for the first time in this venue with all arrangements made by AUSP president Dr Majula Mohapatra and general secretary Dr Prashanta Barik.

It may be recalled here that the AUSP was born on 14th April 1991 at the initiative of the then Governor Surendra Nath Diwvedi at Raj Bhawan with senior journalist Pradeep Kumar Behera, RGU Prof P K Panigrahi and NERIST librarian Durga Madhba Sahu as founder members. The AUSP has been celebrating Utkal Diwas on 1st April [Utkal or Kalinga (present Odisha) was formed 1936] since then while Ganesh Chaturthi was added with its celebration in the quarters of RGU Prof P K Panigrahi in 1993.

The festival is celebrated throughout Indian subcontinent especially in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa as well as Nepal. Ganesh Chaturthi is also celebrated by the Hindu diasporas in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, other parts of Caribbean, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, the United States and Europe.

While metropolitan city Mumbai witness the most amazing celebration, but Himachal Pradesh celebrates for the 10 days, longest in India.
