The Calgary Flames travel to Quebec to take on the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night in a battle between two Canadian teams with different fates in the early going.
The Flames are a disappointing 4-8-1 on the season while the rebuilding Canadiens are hovering around .500 at 7-6-2. Despite the records, NHL odds still have the visitors pegged as road faves. This will be the first meeting between Calgary and the Habs since last December when Montreal swept the two-game season series.
Whoever wins is still up in the air. but I'll be turning my attention to the NHL player props market to find value. Find out which player I'm targeting in my free NHL picks for the Flames vs. Canadiens on November 14.
Flames vs Canadiens odds Flames vs Canadiens predictionsThe Calgary Flames have had a road-heavy schedule thus far and that hasn't boded well for them. Calgary is just 2-5-2 on the road this season — not that its 2-3-0 record at home is that much better.
On the other hand, the Montreal Canadiens do have at least some sort of home-ice advantage at 5-4-0 while going 2-2-2 on the road.
That home-ice advantage came in handy during Saturday night's comeback win against the Bruins. Unfortunately, the Habs fell flat the next night against the Canucks.
"It's the NHL, you've got to be ready to go every night. There's no excuses," forward Sean Monahan said. "You play an emotional game, a big game like we did (in Boston), you've got to build off that. You've got to take that into the next night, and I don't think we did that."
Monahan spent the first nine years of his career in Calgary before joining Montreal last offseason, so this game will have some extra juice for him. He only played in one of the games against Calgary last year, recording assists on both goals in a 2-1 win.
The former Flame has been red-hot this season, registering 13 points in 15 games while going pointless in only four. The Flames have not been playing too well defensively recently as they allowed nine goals in their last two games. It doesn't help that Jacob Markstrom has been dealing with an injury, although he practiced with the team on Monday.
The Habs should be able to put up a handful of goals and Monahan is going to be in the mix. Monahan, Brendan Gallagher, and Tanner Pearson have formed a pretty good third line for Montreal.
My best bet: Monahan to record a point (-115 at SIA)

Flames vs Canadiens same-game parlay
Canadiens moneyline
Over 6.5 goals
Sean Monahan anytime goalscorer
Not only is Monahan putting points on the board but a lot of those have come via goals. The former Flame has six goals in 15 games on the season and is due for another.
Monahan leads all Canadiens players with 28 high-danger scoring chances this season. He's generated 45 total scoring chances and 4.89 expected goals. Calgary has been allowing a lot of goals recently and Monahan should be able to get in the mix.
Along with that, both teams are capable of putting up more than a few goals — especially with these goalies. The Over 6.5 and Montreal to win brings my parlay up to +700.

The Flames are road favorites at -145 with the Canadiens as home underdogs at +120. This line could move toward Calgary if Markstrom is confirmed as the starter, otherwise, it’ll be Daniel Vladar or Dustin Wolf for the Flames.
The total is set at six goals with the Over 6.0 slightly favored at -120. In turn, the Under 6 is +100. Both of these teams have trended toward the Over this season and the goaltending matchup leaves much to be desired. I'd play the Over 6.0 for the total and wouldn’t hate taking the Over 6.5 at plus odds.
