Biting winds and frigid temperatures in the forecast have Environment Canada issuing an extreme cold warning for much of western and southwestern Manitoba.
Wind chills are expected to make it feel like –45 C to –50 C from Wednesday night to Thursday midday, according to Environment Canada.
The warning extends to the following communities:
Virden, Souris. Brandon, Neepawa, Carberry, Treherne. Melita, Boissevain, Turtle Mountain Provincial Park. Killarneym, Pilot Mound, Manitou. Dauphin, Russell, Roblin, Winnipegosis. Minnedosa, Riding Mountain National Park. Ste. Rose, McCreary, Alonsa, Gladstone.Environment Canada urges people in those areas to dress for the conditions as frostbite can develop in a matter of minutes when skin is exposed to the cold.
Pet owners should also consider keeping them indoors.
