LAKELAND - An extreme cold warning is in place for much of the Lakeland.

The cold weather warning on Dec. 17 from Environment Canada states that "Extremely cold wind chill values near minus 40 are expected tonight."

The warning adds, "Many areas will see the coldest conditions begin this evening. Temperatures will moderate on Wednesday."

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. People should watch for cold related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

"Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill," according to Environment Canada.
