LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, Erica Stoll, according to court documents filed Monday in Florida.

TMZ first reported the news Tuesday and his agent, Sean O’Flaherty, later confirmed it.

McIlroy arrived at the site of the PGA Championship, Valhalla Golf Club, early in the afternoon. He won the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday and headed home to his home in Jupiter, Fla., and is one of the favorites to win this year’s second major.

McIlroy was married in 2017 and he and Erica have a daughter, Poppy, who was born in 2020.

The four-time major winner, who is from Northern Ireland, met Stoll in 2012 when she worked for the PGA of America. He credited her with helping him make a tee time for the final days of the 2012 Ryder Cup singles matches, when he misunderstood his tee time and was late arriving to the course at Medinah.

McIlroy later was engaged to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, a relationship that ended in 2014 before he went on a run to win two major championships that summer.

According to the court filing, McIlroy is being represented by Thomas Sasser, who handled Tiger Woods’ divorce in 2010.

“Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that divorce has been filed,’’  according to O’Flaherty, in a statement. “They stressed Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will not be making further comment.’’
