Kids are back in school; drive safely

Schools have been on an extended break over the holidays and students returned yo classes on January 8, 2024. Please keep this in mind as kids make their way in the dark mornings and sometimes they may be difficult for drivers to see.

CPPS Incidents of note

On December 16, 2023 at 10:54 p.m., Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) arrested a male driver during a traffic stop at Highway 305 and Highway 12 for an outstanding warrant for theft under $5000 (contrary to Section 354(1)(a) CC) out of Warman RCMP. The driver was also served a SOTI for driving while suspended and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.

On December 19, 2023  at 12:38 p.m., CPPS assisted RCMP and Saskatoon Police Service with stopping a stolen vehicle on Highway 11; during the process the female driver rammed a CPPS police vehicle and also an RCMP police vehicle prior to being placed into police custody. No one was injured and vehicle damage was minor. The female driver was taken to Saskatoon RCMP detachment and held to appear later at court charged with Assaulting Police Officer x2, Dangerous operation of MV, Possession of stolen property, breach of conditions, flight from police x2.

On December 21, 2023 at 11:35 a.m., CPPS attended to an address in Warman to assist RCMP with an unconscious, not-breathing, person, overdosing. CPPS attended to the residence, took over CPR, and administered Narcan to the unconscious male. After Narcan was administered to the person, they started to breathe on their own and were transported to hospital by EMS.

On December 23, 2023 at 11:55 p.m., CPPS responded with RCMP to a single-vehicle rollover on Valley Road near Township Road 354. The driver had swerved to miss some deer, causing the vehicle to roll. The driver was transported to hospital in Saskatoon for evaluation.

On December 23, 2023 at 9:50 p.m. CPPS observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee driving east on Township Road 384 near Dalmeny Road, failing to dim its high beams. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver presented with impaired signs; open alcohol was observed in plain view, and the driver smelt strongly of beverage alcohol. He provided a sample of his breath into the approved screening device which resulted in “FAIL”. The driver was arrested and transported to Martensville RCMP detachment where he provided two samples of breath over .08. He was served an Appearance Notice for Provincial Court in February, 2024, a vehicle impoundment form, and driving while disqualified ticket.

On December 27 at 4:12 p.m., CPPS conducted a traffic stop and found the driver operating a grey Ford F150 under the influence of cannabis on Grasswood Road near Range Road 3051. The driver, a class 7 learner, with a driver’s license (DL) restriction not to consume any amount of alcohol/drugs while operating, was subsequently issued a 60 DL suspension and seven-day vehicle impound as per SGI, as he was driving with his 14-year-old cousin in the vehicle.

On December 28, 2023 at 11:33 p.m., CPPS conducted a traffic stop on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road after receiving an Automated License Plate Reader hit on a passing vehicle. The driver was found to have never possessed a drivers license and was suspended from driving.  The driver subsequently had his vehicle impounded for 30 days and received a ticket for driving without a valid driver’s license.

On Decmeber 29, 2023 at 12:25 a.m, CPPS conducted a traffic stop on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road for speeding past a tow truck with its lights in operation.  The driver displayed signs of cannabis impairment and admitted to recent consumption of cannabis. He submitted to an oral fluid demand which resulted in a positive reading for THC, and subsequently had their driver’s license suspended for three days and vehicle impounded for three days.

On December 29, 2023 at 1:23 a.m., CPPS stopped a vehicle on Highway 219 near Cartwright Street. The driver was found to be under the influence of beverage alcohol and submitted to a roadside screening device demand which resulted in a reading of WARN. Their driver’s license was suspended for three days and vehicle impounded for three days.

On December 29, 2032 at 7:03 p.m., CPPS conducted a traffic stop on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road for a burnt-out taillight. CPPS noticed signs of impairment and an odor of cannabis. The driver submitted to an oral fluid demand which resulted in a positive reading for THC. Driver’s license suspended for three days and vehicle impounded for three days.

On December 29, 2023 at 8:45 p.m., CPPS performed a traffic stop on Highway 11 near Wanuskewin Road for a burnt-out taillight. The driver was found to have a warrant out from the Saskatoon Police Service and was subsequently arrested on that warrant and released on paperwork to attend a later date at court in Saskatoon. He was also found to be disqualified from driving and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
