Conor McGregor took to social media platform X this week to campaign for an Irish presidential bid in 2025, saying that he would have the power to "dissolve the Dáil entirely".

The UFC fighter took to social media on Wednesday night to join others in criticising the Government over their lavish spending on their new bike shed at The Dáil, and on Thursday followed that up by announcing he wants to be Ireland’s next President.

In the lengthy tweet, McGregor said he was "the only logical choice", explaining that "Ireland needs an active President employed wholly by the people of Ireland".

As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So as i said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on…

McGregor has previously stoked up anger directed at the Irish government before, having posted multiple tweets during the Dublin riots in November.

The MMA fighter's presidential bid tweet garnered much attention, with far-right influencer Andrew Tate saying he would vote for McGregor.

In a reply, the Romanian influencer currently under house arrest while he is investigated for a human trafficking case against him that allegedly involves minors.

“My grandfather is from Limerick. I have the Irish passport. I will vote for you. We must do something before it’s too late,” said the controversial Youtuber in reply to McGregor's threats to dissolve the Dáil.

Technically, McGregor would be eligible to run as he has reached the minimum age 35 and is technically a resident of Ireland, but he may not make it passed the first stage of the process as he would have to be nominated by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas and four Local Authorities.
