Canada Day Activities In Grey Bruce

There are plenty of Canada Day activities in Grey Bruce this weekend.

In Owen Sound, the city has two days of major events for Canada Day Weekend at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park on Saturday, there will be lots of live music and activities with Canada Day fireworks at 10 p.m.

The festival kicks off Friday with a youth day at the Owen Sound Visitor Centre from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Also Friday, at 6 p.m., there are kids activities, music, food and fireworks at the Annan Ball Diamond in Meaford with fireworks at dusk.

In Bognor Saturday, there will be an antique car show, food booth and later fireworks.

In Meaford, there’s a big celebration, starting at 8 with pancake breakfast hosted by the Military Family Resource Centre and the Rotary Club. From 11-2 p.m., there will be a grill zone hosted by the Rotary Club of Meaford and a beer garden until 6:30.

In Georgian Bluffs there is a Canada Day celebration planned at Cobble Beach starting at noon. Fireworks are planned for 9:10 p.m.

In Hanover, festivities are set for Heritage Square and include kids activities, a barbecue and live music.

In Sauble Beach, the chamber of commerce has music and events planned. There are no fireworks because the municipality has been in a restricted fire zone. The current restricted fire zone does not restrict the use of fireworks, but those using fireworks that ignite a forest fire are liable for costs associated with the suppression of the fire, could be fined up to $25,000 or serve jail time.

For the same reason, there are no fireworks shows in Wiarton either, but there are plenty of Canada Day activities at Bluewater Park including a pancake breakfast, barbecue, the McLaren Pipe and Drum Band, kids activities, a magic show and cake and ice cream, among other things.

In Northern Bruce Peninsula, family fireworks are not permitted at all due to a municipal ban. A fireworks show over the water at Dyer’s Bay has been permitted earlier in the day there, a book sale, barbecue and parade will take place between 12 and 2. In Lion’s Head there will be music at the beach Friday night at 7 and on Saturday, things start at 9 a.m. with a market at the beach and activities continue through to a Canada Day parade at 7.

In Tobermory, starting at 11 a.m., there will be all kinds of activities at the harbour. There are no fireworks planned.

In Southampton, a celebration will start in the late afternoon at the big Canada Flag on High Street with the Southampton Concert Band playing the top 40 songs from the 1940s to the 1990s. The Rotary Club will have popcorn, and a barbecue. Fireworks at dark.

The legion in Southampton is hosting a Canada Day breakfast in support of veterans and the community on Saturday, July 1st. Breakfast will include scrambled eggs and sausages from 9 a.m. to noon.

In Kincardine, festivities start at 8 a.m. in Tiverton for the Lions’ Club Brunch at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre with proceeds going toward the splash pad project. The Canada Day Parade will be at 10:30 which is being organized by the Tiverton Agricultural Society. An unveiling ceremony for the Kincardine Lighthouse and Phantom Piper plaque will be happening at 2 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, families can enjoy a performance by Boiler Beach, the Wild Ontario Bird Show, and for the kids, balloon twisters, face painters, and bouncy castles.
