Update Sept. 21: Critical water main repair affecting city-wide water ...

Calgary Water Restrictions

Final water quality tests are in and confirm that our water quality meets or exceeds all safety standards and is safe to drink.

After the Bearspaw South feeder main system is stabilized, we will work to replenish water storage in our reservoirs. We remain on track to lift all water restrictions on Sunday.

Today we are doing targeted hydrant flushing to manage turbidity or the cloudiness of the water. This is part of the normal process when a pipe is returned to service and allows us to pull cloudy water out of the water distribution system.

Minimizing the turbidity of the water will take up to eight hours.

As we open valves and reconnect the feeder main to the system, it is likely that some people will notice that their water has a chlorine smell. This smell will be temporary and will resolve quickly once the feeder main is back in service. Pouring drinking water into a pitcher and letting it sit on the counter or in your refrigerator before drinking allows the chlorine smell to clear.

Water use yesterday was 480 million litres and is projected to be 475 to 485 million litres today. This is well within the required reduction that we are asking of Calgarians and our regional customers.

Construction update

We continue to progress with the final stages of our construction.

We will be paving at Sites 1 and 5 tomorrow, with yesterday’s rain having created a slight delay in our plans.
