(Bloomberg) -- Bill Clinton entered a Washington hospital on Monday after developing a fever, according to an aide for the former president.

“President Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center this afternoon for testing and observation,” spokesman Angel Ureña said in a statement. “He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.”

Clinton, 78, was active during this year’s presidential campaign. He helped headline a star-studded New York City fundraiser alongside former President Barack Obama for President Joe Biden and later hit the trail for Vice President Kamala Harris when she took the top spot on the Democratic Party ticket. Clinton also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this summer.

Since leaving the presidency in January 2001, Clinton has experienced some significant health events, most notably in 2004 when he underwent quadruple bypass surgery. Complications from that surgery led to a March 2005 operation as well, in which doctors removed scar tissue.

More recently, Clinton was hospitalized for six days in 2021 after an infection and in 2022 he said he had tested positive for Covid-19 but experienced only “mild symptoms.”
