Beyoncé Gives Team USA a Rousing Intro for the 2024 Olympic ...
Beyoncé is Team USA to her core.
Cowboy Carter herself honored Team USA's Olympians on Friday with a promotional video introducing America's finest athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games. The roughly two-minute-long video first aired live on NBC before it was shared on Beyoncé's Instagram just hours after the opening ceremony kicked off the global sporting event.
If you didn't see it live on TV, the Bey Hive (me) might have thought they were about to get those visuals we were promised after Renaissance was released in 2022. But as always, Beyoncé never lets us know her next move. Regardless, the 32-time Grammy winner appears in front of a black background doing her famous slow-mo catwalk while her song “YA YA" starts playing.
Decked out head-to-toe in red, white, and blue (and freedom), Beyoncé wears a silk taffeta varsity opera coat made by Thom Browne with a white USA onesie embellished with shimmering stars and stripes across the bottom. Nobody loves a onesie more than Bey. Her long, platinum-blonde hair (made gorgeous by her haircare line Cécred, of course) hangs down long to her waist.
Beyoncé mouthes the lyrics to “YA YA," which starts with “Hello girls.” That's when Team USA's gymnastics team appears on screen — including Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Suni Lee, Teen Vogue cover star Jordan Chiles, and Hezly Rivera responded, “Hello, Beyoncé.” The musician then turns her attention to the men's gymnastics team, who respond, “You're pretty swell,” as the lyrics go.
“We want to welcome you to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games,” Beyoncé continues, replacing the lyrics of her song to fit the intro. “On behalf of Team USA, we gon' make it do what it do, YA YA.”
As “YA YA” plays, Beyoncé begins a rousing speech that's enough to turn the greatest naysayer into the most patriotic American there ever was. With each word she utters about Team USA, it's like you can hear a bald eagle flying overhead or see the Declaration of Independence flashing before your eyes. If only that were added to the promo video.
“Get a look at America, y'all,” Beyoncé says. “These hopes and dreams. These superstars that represent us. The people of this big, bold, beautiful, complicated, nation. All rooting together for them.”
Beyoncé makes sure to mention track and field stars Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson, calling them “the fastest man and woman on the planet.” The superstar also shouts out Team USA swimmers Caleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky, along with her “girl” Simone Biles. “Born to fly, destined to inspire."
A montage of Team USA's athletes plays on screen, with announcers yelling their wins, as Bey continues her monologue.
“We've got superstars and we've got legends. We've got big dreamers who fought their whole lives to get here. Who gave up everything for one shot and made it,” Beyoncé continues. “That pride and that joy? That's what gets me about this team. And that's what makes me believe in this team And that's why I can't wait to see what they pull off over these next 16 days.”
