Sacks not a good sign for Cincinnati

Four first-half sacks of Joe Burrow match a season-high for Cincinnati.

The other two instances? Weeks 1 and 2, both Bengals losses.

More touches for Pacheco?

If there’s a knock on Chiefs coach Andy Reid, it’s that he seems to forget you’re allowed to call running plays sometimes. Isiah Pacheco having only two carries in the first quarter seems to fit into that category.

Pacheco, who had a touchdown run called back by holding, is averaging 6.55 per carry, including 4.4 per carry after first contact, since Week 17, according to TruMedia. Might want to stick with that guy in the red zone.

Kadarius Toney (ankle) questionable to return

The Chiefs passing game was already banged up coming into this game and now they could be even more shorthanded.

Should Chiefs have kicked field goal?

Should the Chiefs have kicked the field goal there?

According to this model, it wasn't an obvious decision one way or the other.

Familiar territory in red zone

Another drive into Bengals territory, this time the red zone, but the Chiefs only come away with another field goal.

Kansas City entered the day having scored touchdowns on an AFC-high 70.7% of their red-zone drives this season, the second-best rate in the NFL.

Chiefs extend lead

The Bengals are lucky to only be down 6-0 after how that first quarter and first play of the 2nd quarter went.

Chiefs are fortunate

This Kansas City drive has featured two near turnovers off somewhat gadget-y plays: Travis Kelce's errant lateral to Jerick McKinnon and Patrick Mahomes' shovel pass to McKinnon.

The Chiefs are fortunate neither mistake has cost them.

Burrow seeing nothing but Chiefs

This week Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said of Joe Burrow: “It feels like he’s got six eyeballs around his head. Seriously.”

Right now, all six are seeing Chiefs defenders. Kansas City already has three sacks, not because Spagnuolo is bringing extra bodies but because he’s simulating pressures to isolate his stars (like Frank Clark and Chris Jones) the matchups he wants up front.

Bengals offensive line struggling

The Bengals’ patchwork offensive line allowed one sack in 38 Joe Burrow dropbacks last week against the Bills.

So far tonight? The Chiefs have three sacks in six Burrow dropbacks.

Chiefs defense already outdoing Week 13

In the Week 13 matchup, the Chiefs tallied zero sacks against Cincinnati. Kansas City already has three sacks in this contest.

Chiefs cash in on field goal

The Chiefs take a 3-0 lead on 43-yard field goal by Harrison Butker, his third make in three tries this postseason

Kansas City has now scored (TD or FG) on its opening drive in four straight games.

The Chiefs scored on their opening drive on just four of their previous 11 games.

Elite company for Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce is nearing the top of the all-time postseason receiving yardage chart.

On his first catch of the day, Travis Kelce broke a tie with Rob Gronkowski for 3rd-most career receiving yards in NFL postseason history.

The only names left to pass: Jerry Rice (2,245) and Julian Edelman (1,442). @Chiefs #ChiefsKingdom

Call stands

It’s hard to imagine the official who called that pass incomplete could have seen the ball because Kadarius Toney’s body shielded him from the action. The one TV replay we’ve seen so far from the front side seems to show the ball moving.

It probably wouldn’t be enough to overturn a catch call, but it’s also not good enough to award Toney a catch here.

Chiefs' Frank Clark reaches third in postseason sacks

Chiefs DE Frank Clark climbs to third in NFL history in postseason sacks, having just recorded his 13th.

He has had fairly quiet regular seasons the past couple years, but the guy steps up in the playoffs.

Impressive defensive stand for Chiefs

The Bengals get one first down, but the Chiefs hold for a stop on the following set of downs.

It’s the first time Cincinnati has been held scoreless on its opening drive of a game since Week 15 against the Bucs. The Bengals had scored (TD or FG) on their first drive in four straight games entering tonight.

Chiefs suffer injury early

L’Jarius Sneed was the Chiefs second-leading tackler (108) and tied for the team lead in interceptions (three) in the regular season, and the TV replay of his injury did not look good. Sneed took a hit to the head on his tackle attempt and was very wobbly in his attempt to get up.

It’s hard to imagine he plays anymore today.

Romo not excited about Kelce's back spasms

CBS color analyst Tony Romo said in the pregame that he’s not comforted much by the fact that Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce got through the pregame warmups with no issues from his back, which suffered spasms this week.

“That thing can spasm anytime,” Romo said. “That concerns me. The Chiefs would have to throw out half of their playbook if he’s out.”
