Applications for COVID-19 BC Recovery Benefit open today
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Starting today, British Columbians will be able to apply for the BC Recovery Benefit, a one-time, tax-free payment of up to $1,000 for eligible families and single parents, and up to $500 for eligible individuals.
People will need to apply to be able to access the money, and will be able to do so starting at 8:30 a.m.
For those who don’t want to apply online, they will have to wait until Dec. 21, when a call centre will be available.
If all goes according to plan, some people could receive their payment by Christmas, the province said earlier this month.
The payment will be directly deposited into bank accounts and the amount varies depending on income. Families earning less than $125,000, with a sliding scale to $175,000, could receive up to $1,000. Individuals earning less than $62,500 could see up to $500. Individuals with a net income of up to $87,500 could see a reduced benefit.
The finance minister has said that up to 3.7 million people will be eligible for a benefit and some could see it by the end of the year.
