North Bay Police Chief Daryl Longworth says the organization has been working hard to find efficiencies and way to re-purpose positions.
So in January, the Service will be adding an officer who will work specifically on domestic violence issues.
"We've already selected an officer that will be doubling our staffing with our domestic violence in fact, we've renamed the whole unit used to be called the Domestic Violence Support Services Unit," said Longworth after Tuesday's November Police Board meeting at North Bay Police headquarters.
"We've renamed and focused that that unit, which will be now two officers, instead of one, and they'll really be a quality assurance," added Longworth.
Longworth notes that every officer on the street, will continue to do domestic violence investigations.
"This will be a quality assurance piece to really review everything we've done to make sure we're supporting our victims, the charges are being processed, all the court documentation," he explained.
"We recognize the importance of domestic violence and our part and the role we play in domestic violence, and we don't want anything to fall through the cracks. And we want to make sure again, we're doing the best job we possibly can, and that extra body will allow us to do that."
