Aspen’s ski and snowboard roots run so deeply, they’re snaking toward the Southern Hemisphere.

Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club announced Monday that two of its athletes, Hunter Maytin and Nick Geiser, will compete at the first World Cup of the season, at the renowned Cardrona Resort in New Zealand.

Both Maytin and Geiser now join Aspen Ski and Snowboard alumni Alex Ferreira, Cassidy Jarrell, Kai Morris, and Tristan Feinberg in competing in the World Cup competition, according to an Aspen Ski and Snowboard Club news release. The World Cup qualifiers are Sept. 7, with finals taking place on Sept. 8.

This marks the beginning of Geiser and Maytin’s journey toward the World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and setting the stage for the coveted Italy 2026 Olympics.

“This is an incredible opportunity to showcase our skills on an international stage,” Geiser said in the release. “Representing AVSC means so much to me. The program has provided me with invaluable skills, forged lifelong friendships, and introduced me to extraordinary mentors. I’m truly grateful for everything AVSC has contributed to my growth.”

Dave Zweig, Aspen Ski and Snowboard Club head park and pipe coach, said the event is a fantastic platform for Geiser and Maytin to apply the techniques they’ve honed throughout summer camps and training sessions.

“I am eager to see how they perform and begin the season with such a strong showing,” he said in the release.

In addition, Aspen Ski and Snowboard Club athlete Hanna Lamm will be competing in the ANC Cup (Australia/New Zealand International Cup) on Oct. 1 at Cardrona Resort. This premium level contest will see her go head-to-head with top emerging talent as well as seasoned World Cup competitors.

“This is an exciting chance for Hanna to continue her ascent in the sport,” Zweig noted in the release. “Though she has only been skiing and competing in Halfpipe for a year, her performance has been impressive. Her consistent amplitude and effortless execution make her a standout. This contest will be a key step in her journey toward reaching the World Cup level, and I believe that day is fast approaching.”

Lamm expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to head to New Zealand and dive back into the competition season,” she said in the release. “It’s amazing to think that I’ll be back on snow in just under a month, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”
