Manchester United vs Arsenal live updates: Visitors hold on for 1-0 ...
Manchester United fans have been having their say in The Athletic's discussion tab at the top of the page and clickable here.
Jesse K asks: The question is, will we score a goal in May?
Gishant M says: I don't know about others but this didn't feel as bad as I thought I was going to feel when I initially saw the lineup!
A pessimistic Zish Z adds: The season is almost over. Small mercies...
While Lee K predicts: I don’t think Erik survives into next season any more honestly. I understand squad issues but the football is just so tepid too.

The reactions from Arsenal fans on our discussion page have ranged from unimpressed to amounting to "a win's a win"...
Luco O: The win is all that mattered.
Nicolas R: That was not pretty but sod it. Let’s see if West Ham can do us a favour on the final day.
Joseph S: Not pretty but that’s a huge result for this side. Saliba was monumental at the back. We’ve taken it to the last day and if City want it, they’ll have to earn it.
Pires C: On this display, we don’t deserve to be champions. second is about right for the level we are at. This is a Man Utd that got thrashed by mid-table teams, but we sit off and defend feel like an actual mid-table team. And when we get the ball we lose it poorly. Still love my Gooners, the players, and Arteta, but be objective and realistic about where we are.

The Premier League’s title race will go down to the final day of the season, it was confirmed after today's result.
Manchester City’s 4-0 win against Fulham on Saturday saw them move two points ahead of Arsenal, but Arsenal returned to the top of the league with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
With such fine margins set to decide who lifts the Premier League title next Sunday, The Athletic's Luke Bosher breaks down the state of play below.

I guess I see where Erik ten Hag is coming from with that comment on Casemiro.
If, of course, by 'small' mistake he meant 'massive and catastrophic', and as if it wasn't personally him that was responsible for putting a midfielder with no pace at centre back.
Ten Hag was then asked about Casemiro's mistake for the only goal of the game.
"In that situation, that is a midfielder playing that position (centre-back)," he said.
"He made a small mistake but it has hard consequences."

I mean, I don't expect him to come out and start blasting all of his players.
But Man United boss Erik ten Hag struck a curiously positive tone in his post-match press conference.
You do realise you lost at home against your bitter historic rivals, right? With only two shots on target?
We mentioned how Ten Hag could be encouraged with the performance of his players in today's game, but it was slightly bizarre that he spoke as if his side had won the game after the match.
"We can face them (the supporters)," he told Sky Sports. "On Monday, we definitely couldn't face them but you can see the fans are behind us and they fought with us at Palace. Today, we paid them back but that should be the standard in any game.
"It always starts with the right attitude. That is what you have to build during the week and, on matchday, you have to be spot on. Today, we did even though we were missing seven starting-XI players.
"We were competitive with one of the best teams in the league."

Manchester United have now lost nine games at Old Trafford in all competitions this season, tied for their most home defeats in a single season.

"We will certainly be watching the game. I watch all the games, it's true," he said.
"We need that result in order to achieve it and, on top of that, we have to do our job. So everything is still at stake.
"It's football, they are always possibilities."

Arteta was very honest in his post-match interview after being asked whether it can be overestimated how hard it is to win at Old Trafford.
"Absolutely not," he responded to Sky Sports. "We know the difficulty of it and that's why we have only won twice in 20 years here.
"We started the game really well, scored the goal and that affected us in a negative way. We played too safe, backwards and we weren't aggressive in our play to create the threat that we wanted. We gave a lot of balls away because of that and the game became open.
"But, on the other hand, we defended so well. We didn't concede much at all and that's what brought us the result."
Arsenal's win has guaranteed that the title race will go to the final day of the season.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are three points behind Chelsea with two games remaining in the race for the final European spot.

Manchester United 0 Arsenal 1: Title race still alive, Trossard key again, Casemiro blunder
The Athletic
Here's a map of where Arsenal defender William Saliba made his passes against Manchester United today.
Average pass length: 15.6 yards.
Pass completion: 90%.
Such a classy performance.
And Havertz finished his interview with a sentence I'm not sure he would've imagined saying out loud at the start of the season.
He said: "I'm going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever! We are all going to be. Let's hope for the best."
For anyone unaware, that is because Tottenham host Arsenal's title rivals Manchester City on Tuesday.
With only Everton at home left on their 2023-24 schedule, Arsenal will finish this season unbeaten against their five 'Big Six' rivals.

While some players in the Arsenal team will remember last season's title race, Havertz has no experience of one in the Premier League.
"It feels nice to go on every game," he said. "We have to win every single game because City are always keeping the pressure (on us) as well.
"It's so nice to be in that race, every week you have to play at your best and win games, so it feels better when you do it. One game to go for us.
"We need everyone next week, the fans, the whole club behind us. Everything is possible."

Trossard was equally honest in his appraisal of his side's performance at Old Trafford.
"We had only one chance today and it went in," he told Sky Sports. "Maybe it wasn't the prettiest one but we stuck together, we defended well and it was a good win for us. We did what we had to do.
"We were looking for the second goal and we knew it was going to be a tough second half if it didn't come, especially here with the atmosphere. They're still a good team and they can hurt you in different ways.
"Credit to the boys, we defended very well and it's a good win."
This was Arsenal's 27th win in the Premier League this season.
Only twice have they won more games in a league season: 29 victories in 1970-71 and 28 in 1930-31.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have now lost 19 games in all competitions this season. That's their most defeats since the 1978-79 season.
This is the view of The Athletic's David Ornstein at Old Trafford.
It is really tipping it down there now.
Pathetic fallacy klaxon.
