Apple Martin Makes Her Society Debut in Valentino
The annual Le Bal des Débutantes took place in Paris this weekend, and Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter Apple Martin was among the debutantes.
The 20-year-old daughter of Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin wore a Valentino Haute Couture gown, designed by Valentino's Creative Director Alessandro Michele, for the occasion.
According to Vogue, “Michele dreamt up a strapless bleu ciel evening dress fashioned in six dégradé tiers of silk plissé chiffon, cinched at the waist with a black silk bow, which his atelier brought to life over the course of 750 hours. Martin completed her look with a pair of strappy Valentino sandals in a matching shade of blue.” Gwyneth, too, chose Valentino for the event, wearing a polka dot ruffle dress from the brand, and her son, Moses, was in a Valentino custom tuxedo, as was Chris Martin.
Le Bal des Débutantes dates back to the 18th century and is “linked to the 18th century English tradition of the debutante ball, in which the young ladies were introduced into society,” per the official website. In France, the ball started in 1957 and ended in 1973; it was reintroduced in 1994 by Ophélie Renouard.
Among the young women who have made their debut at Le Bal in recent years are Lady Amelia Windsor, Lily Collins, Lady Tatiana Mountbatten, and Scout and Tallulah Willis, among others.
On her Instagram, Gwyneth posted a slideshow, writing, “A special long weekend in Paris” with a blue heart emoji.
Also in attendance was Gwyneth's mother, Blythe Danner.
