Alex Ovechkin sits beside bench at Washington Wizards' game ...

Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin made his first public appearance since the Washington Capitals announced that the legendary goal-scorer was out for the next four to six weeks due to a fractured fibula. The Capitals captain suffered the injury on Monday after colliding with the Utah Hockey Club’s Jack McBain.

Ovechkin sat courtside at Capital One Arena with Nastya Ovechkina’s father, Kirill Shubsky, during the Washington Wizards’ second game of the NBA Cup against the Boston Celtics. The NBA Cup is an in-season tournament the league first instituted in 2023.

Ovechkin wore a bold all-red outfit along with a new Screaming Eagle snapback hat that was recently released online. Nastya was also at the game but sat behind the basket on the other end of the arena. She posted the following video to her Instagram Story.

Sitting just a feet away from the Wizards bench, the Capitals forward could be spotted easily on TV due to his bright outfit, which matched the court’s gaudy red design.

He smiled and gave a thumbs up for the camera.

Ovechkin did not appear to have crutches with him or be wearing any sort of noticeable brace.

The NHL’s league leading goal-scorer wasn’t the only famous celebrity to attend the game. Bill Nye was also at Cap One, rocking a number 24 customized jersey.
