Latest A.J. Brown injury update will have Eagles fans in a mild panic

On Monday night, the Philadelphia Eagles seemed to be in great position to pull off a win against the Atlanta Falcons. For most of the game, it was a close contest, but in the waining moments of Monday Night Football, a pair of Eagles stars made costly mistakes.

Of course, it was a Saquon Barkley drop which led to the Falcons having life with under two minutes to go. Then, Kirk Cousins led the Falcons on a touchdown drive which ultimately put them ahead.

With one more chance, Jalen Hurts tossed an interception to end the game.

It was a tough way to end a night that already had some bitter news stewing in regards to wide receiver A.J. Brown, who was out with a hamstring injury. To many fans, this was a surprise as Brown came up on the injury report late in the week and was ultimately ruled out for this game.

Following the contest, head coach Nick Sirianni gave us an update on Brown, and it was anything but concrete. He was asked whether Brown would miss multiple games:

“We’ll see. We’ll see. I don’t know that yet," the head coach said. "You know I won’t give you that information yet because I don’t know. We’ll see how that goes.”

This was your typical coach speak answer, for the most part. But, the fact that Sirianni didn't even offer an ounce of positive insight spoke volumes. Without saying it, he seemed to suggest the star wide receiver will be out for a while.

In summation, that's ... not good. Brown is one of the top wideouts in the league, and without him, the Eagles will have to make significant adjustments as they did Monday night.

This could be where a recent trade comes into play, making Howie Roseman look like a smart man, once again.

Without Brown in the lineup, the Eagles' new wide receiver, Jahan Dotson, played 79 percent of offensive snaps on the night. However, he was only targeted once and ended the night with his lone reception for six yards.

This game wasn't as much about the passing game, which seemed to be the main strategy without Brown. Sirianni and the offense stuck to the ground game, going for 186 yards on the night with Barkley and Hurts leading the way.

But, going forward, there are going to be teams that understand the Eagles are going to lean on Barkley and Hurts. Because of that, it's guys like Dotson who will have to step up. Surely, DeVonta Smith is going to be an integral part of the offense.

But, Dotson has to now go out and prove his value as a former first-round pick. If he does, this trade will look all the better for Roseman.

Prior to arriving in Philly, Dotson had totaled 84 receptions on 145 targets for 1,041 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons.
