Game Recap: Eagles 31, 49ers 7

The Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 to win the NFC Championship and advance to Super Bowl LVII where they will face the AFC Champion, either Cincinnati or Kansas City.

Stay tuned for final updates, but read below to see how the game unfolded.

Tensions run high as Trent Williams, K'Von Wallace ejected

Frustration has set in for the 49ers. Following a 6-yard run by Christian McCaffrey, a scrum ensued at midfield that eventually led to K'Von Wallace and Trent Williams exchanging punches that led to both players being ejected.

When play resumed, safety Reed Blankenship forced a Deebo Samuel fumble and recovered it. It was a fourth-down play regardless, but the Eagles took over at San Francisco's 31-yard line.

Eagles start to pull starters; extend lead to 31-7

After the turnover on downs, the Eagles went to the ground with eight consecutive runs – all by Kenneth Gainwell – to set up a 31-yard Jake Elliott field goal with 5:17 remaining in the game.

The Eagles pulled All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson before the drive. Left guard Landon Dickerson exited with an undisclosed injury.

Avonte Maddox, Fletcher Cox stop 49ers on fourth down

The 49ers, down 28-7 early in the fourth quarter, went for it on 4th-and-2 from their own 47.

With quarterback Brock Purdy unable to throw due to his elbow injury and Josh Johnson officially out with a concussion, wide receiver Deebo Samuel took the handoff and was swarmed by Fletcher Cox and Avonte Maddox for a loss of 4 with 10:52 left in the game.

Eagles extend lead to 28-7 as Jalen Hurts gets going on the ground

With the 49ers' offense limited by Brock Purdy's elbow injury, the Eagles nursed the ball for a 15-play, 91-yard drive that lasted 7:50 and ended with a quarterback sneak by Jalen Hurts to make it 28-7 with 43 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

A roughing the kicker penalty on the 49ers extended the drive, then Hurts ran for 12 yards, 2 yards, and 14 yards on consecutive plays. The third play enjoyed an added bonus after 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga pushed Hurts after he was already out of bounds.

The fourth rushing touchdown by the Eagles set a single-game playoff record. The touchdown by Hurts was his 15th rushing touchdown of the season, including playoffs, the most by a quarterback in NFL history.

Josh Johnson pulled out of the game by the referees; Brock Purdy back in

On the opening drive of the third quarter, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh knocked quarterback Josh Johnson to the ground. The referees deemed that Johnson needed to be evaluated for a head injury. Brock Purdy re-entered the game for the first time since the 49ers' opening drive.

Here's a look at the halftime stats, as the Eagles lead 21-7.

The Eagles lead the 49ers in first downs (15-7), total yards (166-117), and are a perfect 3-for-3 in the red zone.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts is 13-of-19 for 97 yards. He was held to -1 rushing yards.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith leads the Eagles with 29 receiving yards, all coming on the fourth-down catch on the opening drive. Dallas Goedert has five catches for 23 yards, while A.J. Brown has four receptions for 28 yards.

Running back Miles Sanders has 39 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Kenneth Gainwell has 21 yards on 3 carries, while Boston Scott has the team's third touchdown on his only official carry.

Haason Reddick had a first half to remember with three tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Javon Hargrave has a batted pass and a sack. Linval Joseph was credited with the first fumble recovery for the Eagles.

Boston Scott extends Eagles' lead just before halftime

Is there room to add 49ers to Boston Scott's nickname of Giant Killer?

In a two-snap sequence, Scott drew a facemask penalty against 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw to get the ball to the San Francisco 10-yard line. On the next play, Scott took the handoff, ran outside to the right, and into the end zone with 16 seconds remaining to make it 21-7, Eagles.

Eagles recover Josh Johnson fumble

Two plays after the touchdown, Josh Johnson bobbled the snap, it fell to the ground, and it was recovered by Haason Reddick at the 49ers' 30-yard line with 1:11 left in the first half.

Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell help Eagles regain lead

Eagles answer the 49ers' touchdown drive with a touchdown of their own to regain the lead.

Miles Sanders scored his second touchdown of the game, this time on a 13-yard run with 1:36 left in the first half to make it 14-7, Eagles.

Sanders' run capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive that ate 6:53 off the clock. The Eagles were also aided by three 49ers penalties.

Gainwell had three straight carries on the drive that gained 9, 4, and 17 yards to get the Eagles into scoring position.

Christian McCaffrey ties the game on 23-yard TD run

Even with Brock Purdy sidelined, the 49ers keep their balanced approach in place thanks to running back Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey broke a slew of tackles on his way to a 23-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:29 left in the first half. McCaffrey gained another 21 yards before the touchdown on three touchdowns, two short receptions.

The Javon Hargrave drive

The defense held firm after the great field position for the 49ers. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave sacked Josh Johnson, then on the next play knocked down a Johnson pass to help force a punt that was fair caught by Britain Covey at the Eagles' 6-yard line.

Toeing the line

A weird sequence at the end of the first quarter. Brett Kern's punt appeared to hit the FOX skycam wire. The refs could not confirm it. Plus, Zech McPhearson was called for illegal use of hands on the punt, so the 49ers started the drive at midfield. The first quarter ended with the Eagles ahead 7-0.

Brock Purdy is sidelined

The rookie quarterback is questionable to return with a right elbow injury. Josh Johnson is in at quarterback. Purdy was injured on the strip-sack by Reddick.

Haason Reddick strips the ball away

The league leader in strip-sacks in the regular season ended the 49ers' opening drive. Linebacker Haason Reddick hit quarterback Brock Purdy as he went to throw the ball and jarred the ball loose as Purdy's arm was moving forward. Originally called an incomplete pass as T.J. Edwards nearly had an interception, Head Coach Nick Sirianni challenged and won. Because Edwards had the clear recovery, the Eagles take over at their own 44. (Note: Linval Joseph was credited with the fumble recovery.)

The Eagles went three-and-out and were unable to take advantage of the early turnover.

Eagles take 7-0 lead on opening drive

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith made a breathtaking 29-yard catch on a fourth-and-3 that got the ball to the 49ers' 6-yard line. Two plays later, Miles Sanders ran the ball up the middle for the game's opening points. The Eagles went 66 yards in 11 plays, keyed by a 29-yard kickoff return by Boston Scott and a 10-yard catch by A.J. Brown on a third-and-8.

LB Fred Warner injured, returns

On the second play from scrimmage, a Miles Sanders run out of shotgun, middle linebacker Fred Warner suffered a stinger injury. He was down on the ground for a little bit before jogging off to the sideline. After going to the blue tent, Warner missed two plays and returned.
