Sidney Crosby remains highest-scoring active NHL player in day ...

It’s been a record-breaking season for Sidney Crosby.

Just last Thursday, in an overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks, he surpassed Mike Bossy for 22nd on the NHL’s all-time scoring list with the 574th goal of his career.

He’s broken another record by scoring No. 575 and No. 576 during Monday’s 3-0 victory against the Seattle Kraken.

Thanks to the 1 p.m. ET start time forced by the Steelers’ schedule, the goals came in mid-afternoon— and cemented Crosby’s place as one of the best day-game scorers of all time.

Crosby’s even-strength strike and empty netter marked his 75th and 76th scored during a matinee game, according to Penguins PR.

That’s in addition to 112 assists, so he now has 188 points in 143 career day games.

At 1.31 points per day game, that leads all active players and cements Sid’s position among the best matinee scorers in NHL history.

Only four players have ever put up a higher production rate in day games, and Crosby’s among good company there with Mario Lemieux (1.56 points per day game), Cam Neely (1.44 ppg), Wayne Gretzky (1.41 ppg) and Pavel Bure (1.35 ppg, all stats from Pens PR.)

This won’t be the last time Penguins fans get to watch Crosby in an afternoon game this season. In fact, history gives us good reason to guess the captain is going to score again at PPG Paints Arena on February 25.

Not only does that upcoming game have a 3:30 p.m. start, but it’s against the Philadelphia Flyers. Of all the regular-season opponents Crosby has played in his career, he scores most against Philadelphia, with 125 points (54 goals, 71 assists) in 86 career games.

Career game No. 87 against the Flyers, in a matinee game at home? Sounds like a good time to bet on Sid.
