No Rest for the Wicked

The day has finally come. No Rest for the Wicked launches into Early Access on Steam just hours from now, and I’ve already had to leave the NAG offices because of the amount of drool from the staff that has flooded the place.

To get us even more hyped, Moon Studios released an Early Access trailer for us to enjoy and to put our minds at ease, they explained how they would be treating this online APRG differently from many others that have recently been released.

In a post on the games news feed, Moon Studios said that they would not be incorporating microtransactions and that, even though the game was built from the ground with multiplayer in mind, the single-player experience won’t need any online connections, not even to anti-cheat software.

This announcement is sure to garner a lot of interest due to gamers just being sick and tired of being taken for a fool with every other game that has been released lately that does require either a permanent online connection, even if it’s a single-player dragon slaying game, or is filled with micro-transactions.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely opposed to either of the two, as I can see the use of it in the pawn system for Dragons Dogma 2, and I have spent a Rand or two on a good couple of cosmetics for other games, but knowing that the money I spend buying the game, in the beginning, is all I need to spend to get the whole experience, playable at any time, just gives me the feeling that the developer cares about the gamer and the game more than the bottom line.

No Rest for the Wicked will launch with a two-week-long introductory price of $35,99, which will jump to $39,99 afterwards. Regional pricing is mentioned, but I expect the game to be at a similar Rand value of around R700 at launch.
